Why This Book

My Upcoming Book: Pet Sit Love

A Loving Tribute to the Bali Street Dogs and Cats

Pet sitting - caring for pets in their own homes while their humans are away - is a cherished practice in Bali, where many expats rescue dogs and cats from the streets or beaches and welcome them into their families. I spent several years as a pet sitter, drawn by my love for animals, the joy of variety and the practical perk of saving money. It’s more than an exchange of services - providing safety, care and companionship in return for accommodation.

Every moment spent with these furry darlings, whether for a day or a few months, has been deeply fulfilling. Each of the thirty or so dogs and cats I’ve cared for holds a forever special place in my heart.

The Story Behind the Book

The idea for Pet Sit Love was born over dinner with friends as I shared stories about “my” pets - each with a unique and moving journey. Many had once roamed the streets of Bali, some found in garbage bins or abandoned near shelters, before being rescued and lovingly adopted. “You should write a book,” a friend said - and so I did.

This book brings to life the stories of the wonderful dogs and cats I’ve had the privilege to care for. It shares their challenges, rescues, quirks and the tender moments we shared, alongside reflections from their owners. I hope readers can see, feel and know them as symbols of the countless animals whose lives have been transformed by human kindness.

Pet Sit Love also shines a light on the devoted work of Bali’s animal welfare organizations, whose compassion gives these beautiful souls a second chance - and I wish to honor and support their mission through this book.

Lucky - The Jealous Sweetheart

Found as a tiny puppy by the highway and once abandoned, Lucky now lives a life of pure love - cherished by two mums who adore and spoil her endlessly.

Red & Luna - The Egyptian Queen & The Moon Goddess

Red and Luna, cat sisters adopted together, are opposites. Red is bold and queenly, Luna shy and gentle. Yet they curl up as one fluffy red and grey ball of love.

Bubbles 2.jpg
Bubbles - The Cuddly Fighter

Bubbles, with ripped ears and almost no teeth from his past as a fighter, eats only mashed meals. Loves sleeping outdoors but is incredibly cuddly, purring beside you on rainy nights.

Muffy 1.jpg
Muffy - The Naughty Charmer

Muffy, a cute pup with twinkling eyes and a straggly fringe, loves beach runs and freedom, and though a road accident once hurt him, he thankfully recovered well.

lexi 1.jpg
Lexi - The Three-legged Heroine

Lexi, once a stray who loved playing with Dexter, was hurt by a sea urchin and lost a leg. She was later adopted into a loving home, with Dexter becoming her brother.

Delila 2.jpg
Delila - The Grumpy Lover

Delila, a sweet Kintamani cross with thick fur, is stubborn and grumpy, especially with her sister Daisy. She loved Dinki and was heartbroken when he left, still visiting his grave to see him.

You will meet many more in the book and get to know each one a little closer. There are countless touching stories of rescued dogs and cats - and many more still untold about those in desperate need of help.
